I would definitely recommend Middlebury summer programs to my students. Given the reputation of Middlebury, as well as the proximity to New York, many of our students would choose to attend. GREAT!
As a student at the Academy, you will become comfortable speaking, understanding, and using your chosen secondary language in everyday situations. In just four short weeks at camp, you will have put in more hours of using and learning your language than in a full year of language at most school programs.
Everyone learns differently and at a different pace. We cannot guarantee specific improvement. But by learning with skilled faculty, using the language in everyday situations, and being with others students who are as motivated as you are, you can expect to make remarkable progress in four weeks.
This is a frequent comment by language learners whose prior language exposure has been primarily in a traditional classroom. Five hours a week for forty weeks a year does not give students much opportunity to use their new language learning. At MMLA, we blend instruction with camp fun and use the language in every imaginable context. Sometimes it takes a few days to break down the barriers that keep students from speaking the language naturally, but before long MMLA camps are a cacophony of kids having fun in different languages.
