I don’t think I ever really felt uncomfortable; I felt like everybody was in the same boat as me. We all had some difficulty, not being able to speak in our first language - but as soon as we started class and I realized we were learning things in one day that took months to learn in high school, that’s when I really embraced it and tried to learn all I could. I made a ton of friends. I still talk to lots of them. I ended up being able to skip 3 grades in Spanish - and it wasn’t just me. There were definitely people who were skipping grades in school.

Summer Language Camps in Vermont, California, and Massachusetts

All 2008 summer camps will be June 28-July 26 at the following sites:

Saint Michael's College, Colchester, Vermont
Arrival Time: 1 p.m.-4 p.m., Saturday, June 28, 2008
Students: Middle and High School
Languages: Arabic (Year 1 or 2), Chinese (Year 1 or 2), French (Year 1-4), and Spanish (Year 1-4)

* Note: this program is offered jointly by the Middlebury-Monterey Language Academy and the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth. To apply for a summer camp at Hampshire College, contact the Center for Talented Youth at www.cty.jhu.edu.

The middle weekend of camp, July 12-13, is designated at all three sites as a time for parents and families to visit. Visitors will have an opportunity to see camp activities first-hand.
