Take all the fun of summer camp. Add the adventure of experiencing a new culture. Blend in leaders who are among the world’s best language teachers. Mix in valuable guidance from an organization that leads the world in language immersion. Heat up for a few weeks in the summer and the result is…summer camp with a difference!
Middlebury-Monterey campers have all the fun of summer camp while creating a vibrant teenage language community. Be the best in our Chinese karaoke lip-synch, join the MMLA soccer World Cup or cheer for your team in Arabic, take salsa dance lessons or cook crêpes au chocolat. Improve your language skills—with others at your ability level—while having a lot of fun!
Why just learn a language...when you can live the language every day in a fun-filled, four-week summer camp?
Summer 2008 dates: June 28-July 26.

It’s amazing how naturally French flows when you and your camp friends are all speaking the language. Soon you will not think about how to use the passé composé; it will happen naturally.
After Chinese and English, Spanish is the most commonly used language in the world. AT MMLA, we teach four levels of Spanish by combining dynamic teachers with a wide array of activities so that you truly live Spanish every hour, every day.
Chinese is a tonal language and there are many stories (mostly apocryphal) about Americans saying “horse” (low tone) when they mean “mother” (high tone). Join other campers learning the right tones while having fun at MMLA.
For Level 1 and 2 students, MMLA campers experience a unique interplay of instruction, language reinforncement activities and co-curricular events giving students an opportunity to learn more over a summer than in many programs located in the Arab world.

From Grade 7 through 12, MMLA campers are a pretty interesting group.
No tests, not much English, and a lot of cheering in Arabic, Chinese, French and Spanish
You have heard about it...now see how MMLA uses a language pledge to maximize language learning.
For 2008, MMLA is at colleges in California and Vermont, and at a college in Massachusetts for students admitted through the Center for Talented Youth.
The Middlebury-Monterey Language Academy creates a safe and supervised round-the-clock language and cultural immersion environment for middle and high school campers.
We seek faculty and staff to be part of our language-immersion summer-camp community for middle and high school students in Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, French, and Spanish. Faculty are responsible for both formal academic and informal social and recreational activities. Classroom-setting teaching is just part of the program at MMLA and the faculty are involved in all camp activities.
Four levels of French, from beginner to advanced, are offered at our Vermont and California campuses. At each site we revel in all the fun of summer camp—games and cookouts; great outdoor recreation; songs, drama and sports; small group projects and whole camp parades—while expanding our horizons to take advantage of French cultural festivals and create a mini-French environment all our own! Our French Directors and faculty come from the finest schools and are passionate about French language and culture…and having fun. Join us this summer and become one of the crêpes au chocolat kitchen raiders!
Join Les Bleus or your favorite team and prepare for regular matches that test soccer and language skills on the field!
