What others are saying

Laura Hook, student
Tucson, AZ

I remember going to France and hardly learning any French - because I had English whenever I needed it, really. This month was much better spent. My comprehension and speaking and auditory skills, listening, increased by light years. Just phenomenal leaps in progress. The teachers and the professors were really good! They were really strong, really patient, really helpful - and just really supportive.

Greenfield, NY

Toward the end of the camp I was talking with our director, in French of course. She said we had created a community. I agreed at the time, but at the moment I would say it's more like a family. I didn't want to come home. I think a lot of people felt that way. I was partly conversational before. I'm close to fluent now.

Jack Gish, student
Middlebury, VT

I don’t think I ever really felt uncomfortable; I felt like everybody was in the same boat as me. We all had some difficulty, not being able to speak in our first language - but as soon as we started class and I realized we were learning things in one day that took months to learn in high school, that’s when I really embraced it and tried to learn all I could. I made a ton of friends. I still talk to lots of them. I ended up being able to skip 3 grades in Spanish - and it wasn’t just me. There were definitely people who were skipping grades in school.
